Recently I had the opportunity to speak to a group of young female entrepreneurs. And what stood out to me the most what the fact that each young girl was actually running her own business. From creating, to working their booths, presenting and selling their product, they were working because it belongs to them. So as I had the opportunity to speak to them I was able encouraged each of them to do, be and become the bosses they were designed to be.
Due to the recent social media campaign that encourages people to ban the word bossy, I decided to highlight the difference between being bossy and being a boss. I understand the concept behind the campaign and I certainly don’t care to debate whether or not this is even a valid or necessary argument. But what I do want girls to know is that it is ok to have leadership skills at a young age and not worry about being labeled because of it. So I used this as an opportunity to applaud being a boss.
It is important young ladies are educated on how to be a boss and what it takes to be a successful boss.
- Know your business. Be able to explain what you do and the why behind it.
- Be your brand. You are the face that represents your business, stand tall and represent.
- Know how to be of service to others. No business will ever survive without someone to serve.
- Be consistent. Someone is always watching, either to see you rise or see you fall.
Do I think the word bossy should be banned? Absolutely not. Do I believe in being a boss, Absolutely!
